One-Line Bio

A life-long explorer of talent, careers and the world

Biography

In 2006
Someone said I might share my experiences about finding a meaningful career on a blog
It would help my business, he said

I decided to try it
Still here
What it helped most might have been me
I finally became a writer
Blogs are great for inspiring courage in short phrases

It needs also to be said that those of you who send emails or talk with me about posts have greatly helped me take the ideas further
Thank you

I still like this café metaphor because what is life anyway if not a long exploration of ideas and choices made meaningful by sharing them together, the way we share good coffee with our friends?
I scribble most posts in my journal first, too
Often over hot chocolate in a café

In 2012, this blog makes a break-away!
We launch a new business web site full of "Ristrettos" (short, not-quite-blog thoughts about careers & talent)
Just a short leap from the metaphor
And this blog becomes my private rambling place

So who knows where it goes next
Thirty years ago, I sat in a huge lecture hall at Ohio State University
Four hundred other students beside me
Greek mythology class
Watched slides (yes, with a slide projector - imagine!) that showed people hiking around Greece in search of the Gods, the architecture, the culture
Suddenly gained the spark of wanderlust that inspired me to an international career, a desire to travel, a love of writing about it

But first, I had to get a passport!

Took me three decades to realize how much of my true self hid under that moment with the Greeks

And many, many steps
I remain deeply in awe of what trying the next one can bring

Interests

You'll find a lot about me professionally at my business website: www.jalle.com or via Linked-In. I jog a few times a week so that I can eat & drink what I like. I reward myself often with chocolate or prosecco for good thoughts or at least trying to learn something. I've taken-up new hobbies here and there -- golf, fly-fishing, skiing -- but none of them stick as an obsession. I would always prefer to spend my time talking & laughing with people I love. Or walking in the mountains...
