Jim Collins, who wrote the classic business book "Good to Great," kicked-off the ASTD Convention this year. I especially liked a couple of his comments about people and learning (somewhat paraphrased):
- Aim to be "interested," not interesting.
- Think of how much you learned during the first 18 years of your life. Aim to learn as much from the age of 70 to 88 as you did from 0-18. Why not?
Jim earned my respect for being more than just another guy with a book that was published years ago. He delivers a passionate, apparently genuine perspective. And anyway, his book is worth reading if you haven't yet!
I heard a recent HBR podcast featuring him and was impressed :-) Do you have any of his books? Any chance of a borrow? H :)
From Jill:
Yes, I have "Good to Great" in my office. You are welcome to borrow it or the related HBR article, which should also be there somewhere. :-)
BTW. You might be interested to know I attended a seminar on podcasting at the ASTD Conference especially because of your influence -- always reminding me to stay current on technology! :-)
