I like variety in a job and among my days. This week provided it. I started the week on business development and ended it with accounting (the latter not always my favorite, but in this case within reasonable boundaries).
The Good:
Gibbs & Soell team building through the work with clients. We find more ways each week to understand and grow through each others' strengths. This week, we divided the work for one specific client to better focus separately on strategic counsel and project management. Everyone seems happier -- hopefully the client especially as we move forward.
I found enough quality time also on my training business to make progress. Preparing for a client workshop next week, marketing and continuing to develop the perspective we want to communicate.
The Professional Women's Group 2008 kick-off event on Tuesday drew strong attendance for an excellent speaker. People stayed around fairly late, which is one of our barometers of success.
Most days I managed my time to get out of the office by 6:30 p.m. or earlier (except Friday, when I decided to finish the accounting so that I could enjoy an open weekend). I'm still in early, but not the pre-sunrise hours of many past months. I'll keep my goals updates separately, but I can say that I found more creative time. Found it? Actually, I simply took it!
The Not-so-Good
I'm a little behind in my correspondence with friends who live in places other than Zurich. Just cannot motivate myself to be on-line or on the phone often in the evenings (when I am tired).
I also did not make it to fitness during the week even once, although I did walk home a few nights. On balance, I think it is OK to mix being outside with being in a gym.
What I Learned
Over the last few weeks, I'm re-learning that it is really up to me to set my schedule and boundaries. I felt well and happy this week, largely due to being engaged in work that I like BUT ensuring I live all of my life, not just the work part. And making sure I rest. When I give myself my creative time, everthing goes better.
