I wrote a quick email to my business partner Sandra last Thursday with a quickly-written article about a talk we will give on May 26th in Basel (Professional Women's Group Entrepreneurs Evening) that was quickly organized the Friday before with only a few quick weeks to prepare.
"Sorry about not reviewing this with you in advance -- working on-demand at the moment. I'm swamped, but at least I'm happy about the things that are making me so busy."
That's the perfect description of my last week or two. Swamped, but the stresses and pace feel worth it.
In theory, it was a short week here as most of Europe celebrates May 1st as Labor Day. Unlike in the USA, where Labor Day Monday
launches the season of summer grilling for many people, here it can be a day of unrest as people take to the streets with vandalism to protest poor pay and labor laws. Policical speeches. And a reason to keep your car at home because even in "safe" Zurich, you might find it later with a dent or fire damage.
This year, Labor Day arrived on Thursday. Many people "bridged" Friday as a vacation day. The weather cooperated to create our first real Summer-like weekend. I believe nearly all people felt grateful.
The good:
- See above
- I helped organize and participated in a colleague's first delivery of a communications training program. I'll write more about this in a few days. I found the entire experience special for the environment of real friendship, professionalism and learning.
- We approved a 2008 growth plan to guide our public relations business here. I'm excited about the possibilities and enthusiastic about our increasing momentum as a team.
The not perfect:
Not much! I cannot ask more than to spend my time with friends, working in a lovely place, with good weather that enhances the beauty and interesting professional challenges.
Sometimes it is more wise and mature not to complain.
