Not quite a year ago, I remarked about the true faith and patience required to grow a plant Asta's way - from the avocado pit. (See my July 2007 post Asta's Avocado Part I ) I did not show so much faith or patience myself when buying my plants already sprouting stems.
Some weeks ago, I learned the results so far:
This is my little "avocado tree" in February 2008. Now it even has some leaves. I still turn it from time to time so it doesn't lean to the windowside. And I had to already cut a leaf that did not look healthy. The pot looked in the beginning a bit too big (like my ambition). I gave it just the space that I thought it might need and nothing else. And in the meantime my little avocado tree looks more like what I expected. Let's see if it survives springtime and how many leaves it will grow.
You will see that my own gardening adventure - also started last summer - required more major adjustments. I wonder if the lesson here is that small steps taken with great patience can sometimes outweigh the fast ideas. The tortoise and the hare again? Hmmm...
