I'm back from the USA. First visit in more than a year. Part business; part holiday (inclusive shopping in Chicago, naturally). I couldn't have picked a more interesting time to be "home." Presidential elections. Economic crisis. Family dramas. I watched it all with awe and intrigue. Realized I have real roots in Ohio despite the fact that I will vote differently than nearly everyone I know in my hometown. I love people there. And I'm now better prepared to explain our American political antics to my friends in Europe. Key word is explain, not "justify." No one changed my vote while I visited either! BTW, do you know where I get the reference to "amber waves of grain?" If you do, I wish you to hum it all day! :-)
