I'm not eating Turkey today (the Pilgrims did not land in the Alps!). In fact, I finished month-end invoicing and visited clients. A regular, productive work day.
But I am happy for my friends and family celebrating Thanksgiving in the States - a wonderful holiday and the official start of the Christmas season. Over the years, I've tried modified versions of Thanksgiving here: the worst was a turkey buffet dinner in a hotel. Just not the same as arguing about why anyone really invented cranberry sauce or "oyster dressing" and then watching the men snooze in front of football on TV as the women clanked around dishes in the kitchen.
My best Thanksgiving in Zurich happened when five women gathered spontaneously at a small Italian restaurant and spoke in our best, fastest American slang about holidays, family and shoes.
Tonight, in honor of my roots, I share our festive lights glowing. I will toast you friends and family in America over a small glass of wine and early night to finally kick away the remnants of my cold. Eat a few extra mashed potatoes for me!
