Well, it all started when our clocks "fell back" for Daylight Savings Time on October 26. Suddenly the world went from Indian Summer to requiring an extra blanket on the bed. By 5 p.m., the streets were dark. I was fortunate that a professor and her long-time research assistant, now consultant from Northwestern University visited, giving us an excuse for fondue.
Not that I had time to notice the dark. Plenty of meetings! Monday in Basel. Tuesday outside of Zurich. Tuesday night and Wednesday with visiting guests. Thursday with our team. Friday, all of the month-end accounting due. Then Friday evening brought a dinner forum with supporters of the Father Sieber non-profit organization for the homeless. Fortunately a friend helped with perfectly-time translation of the Swiss-German dialogue. Whew! And enough.
But I did notice this: Photo taken at 6 a.m. Thursday morning, October 30th. Lovely, soft and quiet.
Elsewhere, it created chaos even in the land of snowy Alps. In my neighborhood I watched it over my first cup of coffee and cheerily slid down the hill in my boots to get my tram. Well worth every slushy step and looking silly for a few minutes.
