Last week - as I ran around preparing for a seminar, a workshop and accounting details - I squeezed in time to order a turkey for the official "Thanksgiving" celebration I will host next Sunday. First time in my own home.
You have to really think about how many people you can invite for such an occasion here in Switzerland. I had a fairly detailed negotiation with the local butcher about what size turkey would fit in my oven. He seemed quite impressed with the huge size I ordered (about 4.5 - 5 kg). Then I talked to Mom over the weekend, who said I'd have to get a pretty small one to fit: maybe 10 - 12 lbs. Pretty much what I ordered. Cultural differences, illustrated.
Compared to here, roasted US turkeys swim in bathtubs! (Or that's how my old roasting pan seems to me now.)
